cells and organelles basics Flashcards
features of Eukaryotic cell
nucleolus, cell membrane, nucleus, vacuole, endoplasmic reticulum which is where the moving of protein happens, ribosomes site of protein produced, lysosomes waste, golgi apparatus exports and packages protein, mitchondria energy, cytosol
features of a prokaryote cell
cell wall, pilus, ribosomes, flagellum the tail, cytosol inside liquid, dna plasmid is sticky circle, and dna
what is a cell membrane and what does it do?
plasma membrane surronds all cells
forms a barrier select what goes in or out, selectively permable
function of plasma membrane
controls movement
creates confined areas for functions
restricts movement of substances
recognition and communication between cells
plant vs animal cell
plant: cell wall giving rigid shape, central permanent vacuole, chloroplasts which is an oval with stripes,
Animal: centrosomes circle with lines coming out of it, lysosome is a circle with dots, golgi apparatus looks like wifi, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, looks like streaks of lines.

what is plasmolised
cell loses water when placed in a hypotonic solution, only in plants
what is crenation
shrinking of cell due to water loss, in hypotonic animal cell
cytolysis
bursting of cell due to water movement, hypotonic animal cells
