Apoptosis ting Flashcards
what is apoptosis?
programed self death, process in eukaryotic cells, is an all or nothing that cannot be reversed
how apoptosis is activated
intrinsic activation: signal to kill itself from within the cell
extrinsic: signal to kill itself comes from outside of the cell
steps of apoptosis
cell shrinks organelles break down, membrane blebbing, formation of apoptotic bodies, phagocytes engulf the apoptotic bodies
proto-ocogenes
increases cell division, and reduce cell apopotsisi, cell death, cell can mutiply out of control in cancer
anti- ocogenes
damage cells continue in cell cycle, prevents cell division, increases apoptosis, doesnt kill the harmful cells
what is P53
protein that controls the g1 and g2 checkpoints, if this protein is damaged it can lead to uncontrolled cell division
necrosis
STEPS: cell size increases, swelling of the cell, bursting inner contents swilling into its environment,
DEFINITION: the premature cell death resulting in the bursting of a cell causing inflammation
