Cells and metric Flashcards
Describe the composition and function of the plasma membrane
The major component is that it is that it is Phospholipids and that means it is BILAYER - TWO LAYERS. They have a head and two tails . Polar heads are hydrophilic tails made up of fatty acids and hydrophilic dislike water. It protects the cell and what is inside. The plasma membrane is semipermeable and selective. It controls what goes in and out of the cell and it makes cholesterol
Define selective and semipermeable membrane
It is a semimembrane that allows some particles to pass through (by size and charge of those particles effects rate of diffusion) and semipermeable brain chooses what gets to pass through depending on the concentration gradient and characteristics.
Selective membrane chooses what passes through.
List and describe the organelles in an animal cell
Within the cytoplasm, the major organelles and cellular structures include: (1) nucleolus(produce ribosomes) (2) nucleus (has the dna code info and makes protein) (3) ribosome (makes protien) (4) rough endoplasmic reticulum (Er trasnport from nucles and ..) (5) Golgi apparatus (6) cytoskeleton (7) smooth endoplasmic reticulum (8) mitochondria (9) (10 cytoso - fluid portion that contains water, solutes, RNA, enzymesand other proteins, l (11) lysosome (12) centriole (13) Centriole (14) Flagella (16) Vesicle -
Identify the composition of the cytoplasm
Its made up of cytosol which is the fluid portion of the cytoplasm is a collection of filaments and microubles, cytoskeleton and organelles (microscopic structures and that contain their own membrane and their own function.) And organelles which are specialized cellular components that carry out different functions. ( Ribosomes, peroxisomes, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus and lysosomes.)
Describe the composition and function of the nucleus
The function is the nucleus houses the the DNA material and the nucleolus and the structure is nuclear envelope, nucleolus and chromosomes/chromatin.
List the metric system units for distance, volume, and mass
Distance -M, mass G, volume L
Convert Metric units to American unit (pounds to kg)
Convert Metric units to American unit (pounds to kg) LB/2.2.
