Cells And Heridity Flashcards
These organisms are usually too small for you to see directly.
Unicellular
These organisms are made up of many cells.
Multicellular
An instrument which makes an object appear bigger than it is.
Microscope
Tiny single-celled organisms that can make people sick, or make food go sour.
Bacteria
This is a boundary or a protective covering that encloses the entire cell.
Cell Membrane
Contained inside the cell membrane is a gelatin-like material.
Cytoplasm
It is a genetic material in a structure;a structure enclosed by it’s own membrane.
Nucleus
In this the genetic material is in a structure called the nucleus.
Eukaryotic Cell
There is no separate compartment for the genetic material, instead it is in the cytoplasm.
Prokaryotic Cell
Scientists use this word to describe any part of a cell that is enclosed by a membrane.
Organelle
It is a tough outer covering that lies just outside the cell membrane. It supports and protects the cell.
Cell Wall
Plants get their energy from the sun and these organelles make the sunlight’s energy turn into sugar.
Chloroplast
These are the organelles that use oxygen to get energy from processing food.
Mitochondria
This in cells means that specific cells perform specific functions.
Specialization
It is a small group of similar cells that are organized to do a specific job.
