Cells And Basic Units Flashcards
What are cells
Cells are basic structural and functional unit of all living organisms.
There are two,the animal and plant cells.
What do all cells contain?
Membrane,cytoplasm,nucleus and organelles.
What are the characteristics of each?
Membrane:surrounds the cell
•allows certain substances to move in and out of the cell
•living,thin and pliable
Cytoplasm:a liquid I which the chemical processes(metabolism)can take place in the cell.
•it is the largest part of the cell and is a jelly-like substance
•usually colourless
Nucleus (core):surrounded by the Nucleus Membrane
•There is a nucleolus/core body inside the core
•contains the DNA of the cell
Organelles:include the mitochondria and valcule
notes about mitochondria:responsible for respiration in cells and release energy from food
•cells that are very active will have more mitochondria than cells that are less active
What are the differences between plant cells and animal cells?
Plant cells have:cell walls
•shape of cell
•valcuole
•chloroplast
Animal cells have non but eith the valcuole,it is small but temporary or not present at all
