Cells Flashcards
To be able to name several parts of animal and plant cells, and understand specialised cells.
Nucleus
Controls the Cell
Cell Membrane
Surrounds the Cell and Holds it together. It also controls what chemicals can enter and leave the Cell.
Cytoplasm
A jelly-like mixture of chemicals where most of the work of the Cell takes place.
Cell Wall
A strong outer layer only found in Plant Cells that supports it and gives it shape.
Chloroplasts
Contain chlorophyl (green pigment) for photosynthesis. Disc shaped.
Vacuole
Where the Plant Cell stores it’s sap.
Sap
‘Plant cell food’ a mixture of sugar, water, and salt.
Palisade Cell
Found in plants and has a lot of chloroplasts. Its function is photosynthesis.
Adaption
How an organism/species becomes better suited to it’s environment/job.
Specialised Cells
Cells that have adapted.
Where are root hair cells found?
In the roots of plants (AND NOT ON YOUR HEAD)
Nerve Cell
Carries nerve inpulses.
Nerve Cell Adaptions
Long, connections at each end, can carry electrical signals.
