Cells Flashcards
Cytoplasm:
Most chemical processes take place here, controlled by enzymes.
Cell membrane:
Controls movement of substances in and out of the cell
Mitochondria
Most energy is released by respiration here (where respiration happens)
Ribosomes:
Protein synthesis happens here
Cell wall:
Strengthens/supports the cell
Chloroplasts:
Contains chlorophyll which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis
Vacuole:
Stores the cell sap.
Bacteria:
A single celled organism , contains cytoplasm, a cell wall and a cell membrane.
Yeast:
A single celled organism containing cytoplasm, a cell membrane, a cell wall and a nucleus.
Diffusion:
Occurs when particles move from a high concentration to a low concentration.
HIGH–>LOW
Occurs when particles are free to move.
Osmosis:
Where molecules of a solvent pass through a semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution into a higher concentrated one
What is the nucleus?
Contains genetic material, which controls the activities of the cell
