Cells Flashcards
Cell
Basic unit of living organisms. Carries out metabolism through energy generated by chemical ATP (adenosine triphosphate)
Chromosomes
Carry genetic information. 46 chromosomes in each cell except for sex cells
Genes
Separate units of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) that control formation of enzymes needed for metabolic reactions
Epithelial Tissues
Cover and protect body structures and line organs
Connective Tissues
Support and bind body structures
Muscle Tissues
Root: my/o. Contract to produce movement
Nervous Tissues
Root: neur/o. Makes up brain, spinal cord, and nerves
Organ Systems
Have a specific function and work together, not independently. The goal of organ systems is homeostasis
