Cells Flashcards
What are cells?
Cells are the basic structural and functional unit of living organisms. they can be multicellular consisting of multiple cells or unicellular consisting of a single cell.
What does the cell theory states?
It states that
All living things are composed of one or more cells
Cells are the basic structural and functional unit of living things
all Cells arise from preexisting cells
What is the function of the mitochondria?
It is the site of respiration and produces energy in the form of atp.
What is the function of the nucleus?
contains genetic information in the form of chromosomes and controls all cell acivity.
what is the function of the nucleolus?
produces ribosomes
what is the function of the nuclear membrane?
surround the nucleus and decides what goes in and out.
What is the function of the lysosomes?
contains digestive enzymes that i used to break down things that the cell doesnt need.
what is the function of the golgi apparatus?
packaged up things that needs to be transported around or out of the cell.
What is the function of the vacuoles?
large membranous sack
what is the function of the cell membrane?
a differentially permeable membrane that controls what enters and leaves the cell
What is the funtion of the ribosomes?
produce protein for the cell
what is the function of the rough endoplasmic reticulm?
works with the ribosomes to produce protein and new membranes for the cell
what is the funtion of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
has transport vesicles that transport thingg around the cell and also produces lipids.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
supports the organelles
What is the funtion of the chloroplasts?
contains a green pigment called chlorophyll that is used to trap sunlight
