Cells Flashcards
What organelles are found in only plant cells?
Permanent vacuole, cellulose cell wall, chloroplast
What is the nucleus?
Controls the cell. Contains the genetic information of the organism
What is the cytoplasm?
Jelly-like substance where all the cell’s chemical reactions occur
What is the cell membrane?
A covering that controls what enters and leaves the cell
What is the cellulose cell wall?
Supports the cell and prevents it from bursting. Made of cellulose
What is the permanent vacuole?
Contains cell sap - a solution of sugar and salts
What are the chloroplasts?
Contains a green pigment (chlorophyll) that the plant uses for photosynthesis
What are the mitochondria?
This is where respiration occurs. Energy for the cell is released here
What are the ribosomes?
Helps the cell to make proteins
What are oil droplets?
Found in seeds. A good store of lipid for the cell
What are starch grains?
Found in plant cells only. Insoluble material which is the storage form of glucose. Makes iodine stain go blue-black
