cells Flashcards
Parenchyma cells
Parenchyma cells are crucial for storing various substances, including water, starch, fats, and other nutrients. Thin cell walls
Large central vacuole
Thin layer of cytoplasm
Companion cells
A type of cell that surrounds the phloem to provide aid and support in oder for the cell to function properly. They are full of mitochondria in order to provide energy to the phloem.
Guard cells
Kidney shaped cells that surround the stomata
Meristem cells
Responsible for the root and shoot growth of plants. they are unspecialized cell
Epidermal cells
A cell that is part of the outer layer of an organism.
Xylem cells
Tube like shaped dead cells that allow the water to flow upwards
Palisade mesophyll
Specialized plant cells located in the leaves, primarily responsible for photosynthesis. They are found just beneath the upper epidermis and above the spongy mesophyll, forming a crucial layer in the leaf’s structure.
Phloem cells
Cells that move around nutrients and glucose around the plant.
Root hair cells
Tube like shaped cells that are in the roots to absorb water and nutrients
mitochondria
Power house of a cell
Ribosomes
where proteins are made
