Animals cell, Mr Blobby
Cytoplasm is where all chemical reactions take place
Nucleus controls the cell
Mitochondria generate energy
Cell membrane holds everything and controls what goes in and what comes out
Plant cell, Mr Blobby in a long box…….
VACUOLE contains a weak solution of salts and sugar called cell sap
CELL WALL made of cellulose which gives a plant cell strength and support
CHLOROPLASTS contain chlorophyll. Absorbs the suns energy so plant can make its own food through photosynthesis
PLUS
NUCLEUS
CYTOPLASM
CELL MEMBRANE
Difference between animal cell and plant cell????
Vacuole
Cell wall
Chloroplasts
What is a tissue?
A group of similar cells working together
What is an organ?
Made up of different tissues working together
What to organs make when they work together?
An organ system
Do plants make tissues, organs and organisms?
Yes
What types of special animal cells are there?
Sperm cell
Egg cell
Red blood cell
Nerve cell
Cilliated cell
What is a sperm cell?
Has a long tail to swim towards and egg. Lots of mitochondria for energy
What what is a red blood cell?
For carrying oxygen, biconcave disc, no nucleus
What is a nerve cell?
Long wire like bit to carry messages around the body
What is an egg cell (ova)?
Much larger than sperm, contains chromosomes from the mother. Yolk in cytoplasm contains a food store for a fertilised developing organism
What is a ciliated cell?
Line air passages to lungs. Produce mucus which trap dust and bacteria. The cilia (tiny hair cells) waft mucus up throat to be swallowed or coughed up🤢
What are specialised plant cells?
Root hairs
Palisade cells
What is a root hair cell?
Long and thin to absorb water and minerals from the soil. Increase the surface area of the roots
What is a palisade cell?
Has lots of chloroplasts. Near the surface of a leaf so they can absorb sunlight for photosynthesis
What are the 5 plant parts?
Flower
Stem
Root
Root hairs
Leaf
What is the purpose of a flower?
Contains male and female sex organs. Makes the seeds
Usually brightly coloured
What is the stem for?
Holds the plant upright
Contains hollow tubes called xylem and phloem
Xylem carries water and dissolved minerals from the roots to the leaves
Phloem carries glucose made in photosynthesis down to the plant
What is the root for?
Anchoring the plant in the soil
Take up water and minerals from the soil
What are root hairs for?
Place where water and minerals are absorbed
Increase the surface area of the roots for more efficient absorption
What is a leaf for?
Organ of photosynthesis
Top layer contains palisade cells where most photosynthesis takes place
Palisade cells contain lots of chloroplasts containing chlorophyll which absorbs sunlight
Lower surface has tiny holes called stomata which open and close to let carbon dioxide, water vapour and oxygen in ans out
Whole plant moves towards light
What are the 9 organ systems in the human body?
Skeletal system
Muscle system
Respiratory
Digestive
Circulatory
Reproductive
Nervous
Excretion
Endocrine
