Cells Flashcards
What is the Nucleus
The nucleus is the control centre of the cell. It contains chromosomes/DNA that determine all aspects of cell and organism.
What is the Vacuole
The vacuole is the storage area in a cell. It contains water, waste or other chemicals.
What is the cytoplasm
The cytoplasm is the jelly like fluid that fills up the space in the cell.
What is an organelle
Is a structure that has one or more specific jobs to perform in the cell, like an organ
What is the Mitochondria
The powerhouse of the cell, Respiration/breathing occurs here, producing energy.
What are Lysomes
Are the garbage disposal that get rid of waste from cells
What is endoplasmic reticulum
Forms pathways that allow materials to move through cells.
What are Ribosomes
This is where the proteins are made in the cell.
What is the cell wall
Is located outside of the cell membrane and supports the cell wall and other structures/ acts like a skeleton
What is the cell membrane
Acts like a big bag that contains all cell contents.
What is a chloroplast
produces energy through photosynthesis and oxygen-release processes
What is a prokaryotic cell
do not have a true nucleus
What is a eukaryotic cell
have a true nucleus
What do brown fat cells do
brown fat cells produce heat for the body
What do white fat cells do
white fat cells keep the body at a constant temperature
