what is a prokaryotic cell
small and simple cell
what is a eukaryotic cell
complex cells (animal and plant cells)
what does the nucleus do
contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
what does the cytoplasm do
gel-like substance where most of the chemicals reactions happen
it contains enzymes that control the chemical reactions
what does the cell membrane do
holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out of the cell
what does mitochondria do
where aerobic respiration happens (transferation of energy)
what do the ribosomes do
make proteins
what does the cell wall do
supports and strengthens the cell (made of cellulose)
what does the vacuole do
storage space of a weak solution of sugar and salts
what do chloroplasts do
(where photosynthesis occurs) which makes food
contain a green substance called chlorophyll (which absorbs light)
what structures do bacteria have
cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall, singular circle strand of DNA (floats freely in cytoplasm), one or more ring of DNA called plasmids
