What do you plant cells contain
Vacuole
Nucleus
Cell membrane
Cell wall
Mitochondria
Chloroplasts
Ribosomes
What does mitochondria do
Provide energy for the cells function
What do cytoplasm do
Control chemical reactions
What does the nucleus do
Process genetic material (DNA)
What does the cell membrane do
Controls energy and exit of materials (semi permeable), let Only certain things in
What do ribosomes do
Protein synthesis / create protein
What does the cell wall do
Keep the cell structure
What do chloroplasts do
They do photosynthesis
What does the vacuole do
It helps maintain the cell
What is lignin
A strong and waterproof substance in the xylem cell
How many chromosomes does a human have
46
What are the girls 23rd pair of chromosomes
X X
What are the boys 23rd pair of chromosomes
X Y
What are the stages of the cell cycle
Stages of mitosis
1. Growth – cell grows, increases in size and mitochondria and
ribosomes multiply.
2. DNA replicates / there are two copies of each chromosome
- Mitosis - The chromosome copies separate and move to oppsite ends of the cell
- Mitosis – The nucleus divides
- Mitosis – the cytoplasm and cell membrane divides to form two genetically identical daughter cells.
NB: stage 1 and 2 are cell cycle stages.
What is happening during mitosis
The cell is dividing
Sperm cells specialised for? Short explanation
Reproduction, long tail from swimming, many mitochondria for energy, acrosome to break through to the egg and stop other sperm from entering.
What are nerve cells specialised for? Short explanation.
For rapid signalling, the cell is long to cover long distances and has, with branched connections to join to other nerve cells creating a network throughout the body.
