Cells Flashcards
What is the Cell theory?
- All living things are made out of cells (one or more)
- The cell is the basic unit of life.
What is the function of the Nucleus? (P&AC)
It contains chromosomes which controls cellular activities and how it develops. It also contains DNA for the future development of a fetes after reproduction.
What is the function of the cell membrane? (P&AC)
Thin layer around cell which controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell.
What is the function of mitochondria? (P&AC)
Small rod like structures which release energy from sugars during aerobic respiration.
What is the function of the Cytoplasm? (P&AC)
A jelly-like substance containing many chemicals where most of the chemical reactions are carried out.
What is the function of the cell wall? (PC)
It is made of cellulose; which is strong and supports the cell, maintaining the shape
What is the function of the Chloroplast?(PC)
Contains green pigment known as chlorophyll which traps light energy for photosynthesis!
What is the function of the Ribosomes? (A&P)
Proteins are made here.
What is the function of the vacuole?(PC)
Contains a sugary water solution called sap. A swollen vacuole makes the cell wall firm by pushing cell contents against it.
What does a plant cell have that an animal cell does not?
Vacuole, Cell Wall, Chloroplasts
