Cells Flashcards
What structure does a plant cell have that an animal cell doesn’t?
A cell wall that is made of cellulose
Does Passive transport require energy?
Passive transport does not require energy
In passive transport substances move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
Does Active transport require energy?
Active transport requires energy
What is Active transport?
The movement of ions/molecules across a cell membrane from a region of lower concentration into an area of higher concentration
What two types of cells are multi-nucleated?
Skeletal muscle cells
Bone destruction cells (Osteoclasts)
What particular cells would you expect to have more mitochondrion?
Kidney Cells
Liver Cells
Muscle Cells
This is because your kidney and liver is constantly removing the toxic waste from your body
This is because your muscle cells are constantly contracting to produce movement
Characteristics of the nucleus?
Controls and Regulates activities of the cell
It stores the genetic materials of the cells
What is an Osteogenic cell?
It is a Mitotically Active stem cell
It is found in the membrane periosteum and endosteum
When Osteogenic cells are stimulated some of these cells differentiate into Osteoblasts whereas the rest persist as Osteogenic cells
What is an Osteoblast Cell?
They are Mitotically Active Cells
They are bone-forming cells
They secrete the bone matriculates
They play a role in matrix calcification
bone forming cells = bone lining cells
They produce more bone cells thus making our bones stronger
What are the four types of bone cells?
Osteogenic Cells
Osteoblast Cells
Osteocyte Cells
Osteoclast Cells
What is an Osteocyte Cell?
Osteocyte cells are mature bone cells
They Moniter and Maintain the bone matrix
What is an Osteoclast Cell?
An Osteoclast cell are Giant, Multi-nucleate cells located at the sites of bone resorption
These Cells will Actively resorb (Break Down/Destroy) bone
What are three examples of Passive Transport?
Diffusion
Facilitated Diffusion
Osmosis
What does an RBC stand for?
Red Blood Cells
What is the main difference between an RBC and other cells in the body?
RBCs have no Nucleus
RBCs can easily change shape
