Cell Transport Flashcards
What is a phospholipid made out of?
Phosphate head and two lipid tails
What is another name for the cell membrane?
Phospholipid
Which part of the phospholipid is water bearing or hydrophobic?
The lipid tails
What is a channel protein?
It creates a tunnel cell membrane to allow larger particles to pass through
What is a protein pump?
Using energy it moves particles from low to high concentration
What function does a carbohydrate serve in a cell membrane?
It identifies the cell
What is endocytosis?
Using energy the cell membrane engulfs large particles and pulls them into the cell
What is exocytosis?
Using energy the cell membrane expels or relases large particles
What is active transport?
It requires energy and moves particles from low to high concentration
What is passive transport?
Transport that does not require energy - moves particles from high to low concentration
What is diffusion?
Movement of particles from high to low concentrations
What is facilitated diffusion?
Movement of particles from high to low concentration through a channel protein - passive
What is osmosis?
The diffusion of water
What is selectively preamble membrane?
It allows only some particles into the cell
What is impermeable membrane?
It does not allow any particles i to the cell
