Cell Tissues Flashcards
Simple squamous epithelium
Location: alveoli, epithelium of capillaries
Structure: single layered skinny cell
Loose Adipose Connective Tissue
Location: under skin and surrounding organs
Function: thermoregulation, stores lipids, cushioning
Dense Regular connective tissue
Location: tendons, ligaments
Function: resists pulling forces at attachment points
Loose reticular connective tissue
Location: liver spleen and lymph nodes
Function: forms support for soft organs
Dense irregular connective tissue
Location: skin
Function: resists pulling forces from many different directions
Loose Areolar connective tissue
Location: Beneath all epithelial cells
Function: binds to the epithelial cells to deliver nutrients
Elastic Connective tissue
Location: lungs, trachea aorta
Function: allows respirator organs to recoil after inhalation. Recoil tissue to help push blood through cardio system
Compact bone
Location: exterior of bone
Function: support protection and storage of minerals
Hyaline Connective Tissue
Location: ends of long bones, ends of ribs, trachea and bronchi
Function: reduces friction, support and flexibility
Spongy bone
Location: anterior of bones
Function: support, protection and storage of minerals
Fibrocartilage
Location: provide strength, cushioning and flexibility
Stratified squamous epithelium
Location: surface of the skin
Function: protective barrier
More than one layer. Thin
Simple columnar epithelium
Location: lining of stomach, central canal of spinal cord
Function: secretion of digestive juices
Tall, single layered
Simple squamous epithelium
Location: alveoli
Function: secretion diffusion filtration
Single layer cell, thin
Simple cuboidal epithelium
Location: walls of kidney tubules
Function: absorption
Single layer, box like
