Cell Theory Flashcards
Cytoplasm
A jelly like material that contains the building blocks needed for life.
Prokaryotic cells
Small cells with no internal parts and where DNA floats in the cytoplasm.
Eukaryotic cells
Cells with a nucleus which separates DNA from the cytoplasm.
Organelle
A small part that that carries out a specific job in a cell.
What are the two types of cells?
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic
What are the three parts of the cell theory?
- all living things are made of cells
- all cells come from other living things
- the cell is the most basic unit of life
Cell theory
Discoveries of early scientists that come together
Hooke
Was the first to identify cells and name them.
Leeuwenhoek
Observed live cells and observed in greater detail.
Schleiden
Concluded that plants are made of cells.
Schwann
Concluded that animals and in fact all living things are made of cells
Virchow
Proposed that all cells come from other cells.
All organisms are made of organelles or cells?
Cells
All existing cells are produced by other living cells or dead cells?
Living cells
The atom or cell is the most basic unit of life.
