Cell Structures Flashcards
Centrioles
Organelles that occur in pairs and are important for cell division in animal cells and most protist cells
Chloroplast
The double membrane organelle with thylakoids containing chlorophyll; where photosynthesis takes place in plant cells and some protist cells
Cilia
Projections from cell surface is the ad in locomotion and feeding; also use to sleep substances along surfaces in some animals, protist cells and prokaryotes
Cytoskeleton
The framework for the cell within the cytoplasm in all eukaryotic cells
Endoplasmic reticulum
Highly folded membrane that is the site of protein synthesis in all eukaryotic cells
Flagella
Projections that Aidan locomotion and feeding in some animal cells, prokaryotes, and some plant cells
Golgi apparatus
A flatten stack of tubular membranes that modifies proteins packages them for distribution outside the cell in all eukaryotic cells
Lysosomes
A vesicle that contains digestive enzymes for the breakdown of excess or worn-out cellular substances in animal cells and rare in plant cells
Mitochondrion
Membrane-bound organelle that makes energy available to the rest of the cell in all eukaryotic cells
Nucleus
The control center of the cell that contains coated directions for the production of proteins and cell division in all eukaryotic cells
Plasma membrane
The flexible boundary that controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell in all cells
Ribosome
Organelle that is the site of protein synthesis in all cells
Vacuole
A membrane-bound vesicle for the temporary storage of materials
Plant cells- one large & animal cells- a few small
Cell wall
An inflexible barrier that provide support and protects the plant cell in plant cells, fungi cells, and some prokaryotes
