Cell Structure/ Functions Flashcards
Nucleus
Structure that contains DNA
Mitochondrion
Organelle that produces energy used by the cell.
(Powerhouse of the cell)
Rough E.R
Structure covered with ribosomes that functions in protein synthesis
Smooth E.R
Functions in lipid production and detoxification
Golgi apparatus
Modifies, packages, and ships newly made macromolecules (proteins)
Centriole
Attaches to chromosomes and separates during division.
Makes up a complex called centrosome
Cell membrane
Boundary of a cell that regulates passage of substances into and out of the cell
Cytoplasm
Space filled with fluid between the cell membrane and nucleus
Lysosome
Structure that contains hydrolytic enzymes for digestion.
Micorvilli
Highly folded extensions of the cell membrane to increase surface area for absorption
Stages of cell cycle
- Interphase: G1,S-phase, G2
- Mitosis:
- Prophase: nuclear envelope dissolves, forms chromosomes
- Metaphase: chromosomes line up at the center
- Anaphase: chromosomes are pulled away
- Telophase: reform nuclear envelope, chromosomes recondense
- Cytokinesis: separate cytoplas
