Cell Structure - BIOLOGY Flashcards
What does a nucleus do?
It controls the activity of the cell.
What is the cytoplasm?
Where the chemical reactions take place
What does the cell membrane do?
It controls the passage and movement of substances into and out of the cell
What is the feature of mitochondria?
Where aerobic respiration takes place
What happens in a ribosome?
Where protein synthesis takes place
What is the job of the cell wall?
It strengthens and supports the cell
What do chloroplasts do?
They hold chlorophyll, which absorbs light for photosynthesis
What does a vacuole do?
It contains cell sap
What are the two types of organism?
Eukaryotic and prokaryotes
How do you calculate magnification ?
I
A. M
What is magnification?
The amount that an image of an object was scaled up when viewed through a microscope.
What is resolution?
The ability to distinguish between 2 separate objects
What is an electron?
A subatomic particle with a negative charge
What is diffusion?
The net movement of particles from a high concentration to a low concentration.
What is osmosis?
A special case of diffusion. Movement of sugar from a dilute to a more concentrated solute. Through a partially permeable membrane that allows water to pass through
