Cell Structure bbc Flashcards
What is the size of an animal cell?
Between 0.01mm - 0.05mm
What is the size of a plant cell?
Between 0.01mm and 0.10mm
How do you find the magnification of the microscope?
Magnification of microscope = Magnification of eyepiece x Magnification of objective lens
How do you find the magnification of an image?
Magnification = Size of image / Real size of image
How many nanometers are in a metre?
1 000 000
INFO
Make sure that when finding the magnification the size of image and real size of image are in the same units
Which organelles are in an animal cell?
Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Ribosome, Mitochondrion and Cell Membrane.
What is the function of cytoplasm?
It is where many of the chemical reactions happen.
What is the function of the nucleus?
Contains genetic material, including DNA, which controls the cell’s activities.
What is the function of the cell membrane?
It controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell.
What is the function of mitochondria?
Organelles that contain the enzymes for respiration, and where most energy is released in respiration.
What is the function of ribosomes?
Tiny structures where protein synthesis occurs.
What organelles are part of plant cells but not animal cells?
Vacuole, Cell Wall and Chloroplast
What is the function of chloroplast?
Contains the enzymes needed for photosynthesis.
What is the function of the cell wall?
Strengthens the cell and supports the plant.
