Cell structure and function Flashcards
What does selectively permeability mean
A barrier that allows small molecules to pass through while blocking large molecules
What is the structure of a phospholipid
Head (hydrophilic) tail (hydrophobic)
What kind of molecules can pass through the phospholipid bi-layer easier?
Small non polar molecules
Define Endocytosis in transport?
Folds into pouch surrounding particles on the outside of the cell
Define exocytosis transport?
Particles transport out of the cell vesicle
How do you measure icrt?
I = 1
C= M
R = .0831
T = 273 + temperature given
What should every graph have?
- Evenly spaced scale
- X and y axis
- Title
Hypertonic
When a solution has more stuff dissolved in it
- exit the cell
Hypotonic
When a solution has less stuff in it
-into the cell
Isotonic
When two solutions have the same concentration
-stays the same
Diffusion
Natural movement from a place to an area with a lot of them to an area with only a few of them
Amphipathic
Something that has both hydrophobic and hydrophilic parts
Active transport
Using energy (ATP) to move particles from an area of low to high concentration
Apoptosis
Natural process which cells self destruct or die in a controlled way
Osmosis
The movement of water with stuff from an area of low to high concentration to balance things out
