cell structure Flashcards
what are the 2 different types of endoplasmic reticulum ad what are the functions of each type?
smooth and rough
smooth is responsible for lipid and steroid synthesis
detoxification of drugs
rough ER is where n linked glycosylation happens
what type of cells are rich in RER ?
plasma cells due to antibody secretion
goblet cells due to mucus secretion
pancreatic cells due to insulin secretion
what type of cells are rich in smooth ER ?
hepatocytes ( steroid and hormone producing)
p450 in hepatocytes
cells of the adrenal cortex
which enzymes is exclusively found in the SER ?
glucose 6 phosphate
what is the function of thee golgi app ?
modification of proteins
proteins leave the endoplasmic reticulum too go too the golgi in vesicles
what are the 2 systems associated with the golgi apparatus ?
the cis golgi network
trans golgi network
what is the difference between the two systems in the golgi app ?
the surface closest to the RER is called the cis face
the other side of the golgi app is called the trans face where proteins exit
what are the post translational events that happen in the golgii app ?
addition of n oligosaccharides to asparginine
addition of o oligosaccharides to serine and threonine
mannose 6 phosphate to lysosomal proteins
what is an example of a heavily glycosylated product?
mucins
