cell structure Flashcards
what are the two types of cell and what are the definitions
the two types of cell are prokaryotic and eukaryotic.
prokaryotic cells are simpler than eukaryotic cells.
prokaryotes include bacteria and blue-green algae.
Eukaryotic cells are more complex and include all animal and plant cells.
what are the differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes
prokaryotes :
. extremely small cells (0.5-3.00 um diameter)
.no nucleus -DNA free in cytoplasm
.cell wall made of polysaccharide, but not cellulose or chitin
.few organelles
.small ribosomes
. examples include - coli bacterium
eukaryotes:
.larger cells (20-40 um diameter)
.nucleus present
.cellulose cell wall (in plants and algae) or chitin cell wall (in fungi)
.many organelles
.larger ribosomes
.example- human liver cell
