Cell Structure Flashcards
What is a vacuole?
It is storage.
Can hold food or waste.
Hold the structure of the cell.
What is the mitochondria?
The cells energy supply is found in them
Their main job is to convert energy.
Where respiration happens
What is the Cytoplasm
The liquid in the cell where most chemical reactions happen.
What is the Cell membrane
regulates the transport of materials entering and exiting the cell.
What is the chloroplast?
the site of photosynthesis
What happens when a cell differentiates?
It becomes specialised,
Enables them to carry out a certain job.
Compare the process of differentiation in animals and plants.
In animals, differentiation happens early in development.
In plants, unspecialised cells can form any cell when mature.
What ways do sperm cells adapt to carry out their function?
Has a tail to swim to the egg.
Has many mitochondria to release energy for quick movement.
What does a Ribosome do?
Makes protein.
What are the 3 main stages in the cell cycle?
interphase, mitosis and cytokinesis
What is a stem cell?
Stem cells are cells that have not differentiated, or become specialized.
What features would you find in a plant cell but not animal cell.
Cell wall
