Q

endocrine signaling-

A

signals from distant cells, originate in the thyroid gland. slower response, long-lasting effect. release hormones

Q

autocrine signaling-

A

cells that can bind to the ligand that is released. signaling cell and target cell can be similar or the same. usually occurs in early stages of an organism to correct tissue to take on proper function

Q

direct signaling-

A

signal between cells that are in direct contact with each other (they have a gap junction)

Q

paracrine signaling-

A

act locally, cells are closer together. move by diffusion through the extracellular matrix. quick responses are degraded by enzymes quickly.
