Cell Respiration Flashcards
What is the cell respiration equation?
C6-H12-O6 + 6O2 —> 6CO2 + 6H20 + ATP
What is the structure of the mitochondria
Inner and outer membrane
Cytoplasm
Cristae
What is the cristae and what does it maximize?
Folds in the mitochondria which creates more surface area for more reactions
How does oxygen get the materials they need for cellular respiration
By breathing to break down food you consumed to make ATP
How does glucose get the materials they need for cell respiration
By consuming foods that have glucose in it, which creates ATP for our body
What is the importance of ATP?
ATP is energy for our body to carry out essential processes
What is the importance of carbon dioxide?
It is given of as a waste product, but can be used for photosynthesizing cells to form new carbohydrates
What is the importance of water in cell respiration
The electron transport chain uses water and is released as a byproduct
