Cell Reproduction Flashcards
1
Q
Bacterial replication
A
Replicates through binary fission
Asexual division of a bacterial cell into two daughter cells
Cell grows and chromosomes replicate
Cell membrane grows and forms a septum
This splits the cell into 2 identical cells
2
Q
Viral replication
A
Virion attaches to host cell membrane at receptor site
If bacteriophage- cell wall is softened by lysozyme from tail plate
If whole virus enters it must be uncoated to release DNA/RNA
Virus takes control over cells metabolism
Redirects cell to produce large number or viral components
Components reassembled into fully infective viral particles (virions)
Released by rupture of cell or budding through cell membrane
