Cell Project Flashcards
Nucleus
COntains DNA and RNA- controls protein synthesis
Chromatin
DNA plus a special protein called histones
Chromosomes
Looks like an X, condensed Chromatin
Nucleolus
RNA is manufactored here
Nuclear Envolope
made of a lipid bilayer, surrounds nucleus and keeps DNA safe inside
smooth Endoplasmic REticulum(4)
does not have ribosomes…Function is the synthesis of lipids, phospholipids, and steroids, detoxifies dangerous chemicals for liver, stores calcium
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
has ribosomes. modifies proteins by adding sugars to it (to make it a glycoprotein) then the molecule is put into a transport vesicle
Golgi Apparatus
warehhouse and finishing factory. Any final modifications are go to glycoproteins before being shipped out of the cell
Ribosomes
found in Cytoplasm and rough ER…makes proteins and recieves instrcutions from nucleus …decode the RNA and make the protein
Lysosomes
memnrane bound, contain strong chemicals that are released when a cell is worn out and needs to be destroyed
Peroxisome
hold hydrogen peroxide
Vacuoles
storage, usually larger in plants than it is in animals(vesicle)
Mitochondria
power house of the cell. where cellular respiration occur
glucose comes here to get broken down to give cell energy
has a mitochondrial disease
Chloroplast
where photosyntheisis happens in plants
Cytopasm
gives the cell its shape, aids in movement, transmits signals from inside cell to outside
