Cell parts Flashcards
What is a cell?
In biology, the smallest unit that can perform all life processes, cells are covered by a membrane and have DNA and cytoplasm.
What is a Nucleus?
In a eukaryotic cell, a membrane bound organelle that contains the cells DNA and that has a role in processes such as growth, metabolism, and reproduction.
What is cytoplasm?
The material or protoplasm within a living cell, excluding the nucleus.
What is a cell-membrane?
The semipermeable membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of a cell.
What is a cell wall?
The definite boundary or wall that is part of the outer part of a cell, a plant cell.
What is mitochondrion?
In eukaryotic cells, the cell organelle that is surrounded by two membranes and that is the site of cellular respiration.
What is Chloroplast?
A plastid containing chlorophyll.
What is Golgi Complex?
Cell organelle that helps make and package materials to be transported out of the cell.
What is cytoplasmic reticulum?
A system of membranes that is found in a cells cytoplasm and that assists in cells production, processing, and transport of proteins and in the productions of lipids.
What is ribosome?
Cell organelle composed of RNA and protein, the site of protein synthesis.
What is lysosome?
A cell organelle that contains digestive enzymes.
What is vacuole?
A membrane bound cavity within a cell, often containing a watery liquid or secretion.
