Cell Organelles Flashcards
What is the cell membrane?
The cell membrane is the outside cover of the cell.
What does the cell membrane do?
The cell membrane controls the things that go in and out of the cell and helps maintain the shape of a cell.
What is cytoplasm?
Cytoplasm is a jelly-like substance which contains materials involved in cell metabolism.
What does the nucleus do inside of a cell?
The nucleus controls the cell and all cell activity.
What is mitochondria?
Mitochondria is the “power house” of the cell.
What does the mitochondria do?
Makes energy for the cell.
What takes place in the mitochondria?
Cellular respiration takes place in the mitochondria.
What does the endoplasmic reticulum do?
Endoplasmic Reticulum makes substances for the cell and the body.
What is the difference between Smooth ER and Rough ER?
Smooth ER has no ribosomes, and Rough ER does have ribosomes.
What is a ribosome?
Ribosomes are grain like structure that makes proteins.
What are lysosomes?
Lysosomes are powerful chemicals that break things down.
What do vacuoles do?
Vacuoles store food and water.
