Cell Organelles Flashcards
Sack that holds the cell together. Controls entering and leaving cell. Proteins embedded in it to allow larger molecules to enter and leave, big things need channels, small don’t.
Cell Membrane
Cellulose, polysacc and protein. Provide protection, maintain shape, prevent excessive water. Not in animals.
Cell wall
Where photosynthesis happens. Animals and fungi don’t have.
Chloroplast
Short-Hair-Like things used for movement
Cilia
Everything in call that isn’t the nucleus
Cytoplasm
Gives the cell structure and provides tracks for movement
Cytoskeleton
Liquid stuff in the cell
Cytosol
“A network with in the cytoplasm.” Removes toxins, makes lipids, modifies proteins, removes foreign substances
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Long, whip like things used for movement
Flagella
Proteins are modified and packaged here
Golgi Apparatus
Bags of enzymes to digest and break things down. Works best in lower pH then rest of cell, protected killing machine
Lysosome
They break down glucose to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate).
ATP=energy body uses
Mitochondria
Makes ribosomes and is in nucleus
Nucleolus
Contains DNA. Has own membrane to keep in separate from rest. Controls functions of cell because of DNA
Nucleus
Make proteins
Ribosomes
Storage closet. Animal’s is small. Plants and animals. Plants use them to absorb water to elongate the cell
Vacuole
