Cell organelles Flashcards
where are mitochondria found?
in eukaryotic cells. Plant and animal
function of mitochondria?
- Create energy (ATP) from food
- Energy produced is stored in ATP
where is nucleus found?
Eukaryotic cells. Plant and animal
function of nucleus?
-Stores genetic info (DNA).
- produce and assemble proteins
- Cells control center, replicate DNA
where is rough ER found?
eukaryotic cells. plants and animals
Function of rough ER
“rough bc of ribosomes”
- make and transport proteins. protein folding, sorting and transporting, getting them ready to transport to proper destination.
- think getting a package ready, but not shipping it.
where is smooth ER found?
eukaryotic cells. plant and animal
function of smooth ER
- make lipid and membranes
- make metabolism and steroid function
- can store and move lipids.
where are ribosomes found?
prokaryotic and eukaryotic
function of ribosomes?
Makes protein
- reads messenger and translates code into amino acids that grow into long chains that fold in protein.
fucntion of golgi bodies
- eukaryotic
- sorting type of bish, sends around or outside the cell
vacuole function
eukaryotic- plant & animal
- stores food, water, waste
central vacuole function
in all plant cells
- stores water to maintain shape
lysosomes function
found in animal cells
- uses enzymes to eat bacteria and old organelles.
chloroplast function
plant cells only
- site of photosynthesis
- uses suns energy to produce food.
