Cell organelle functions Flashcards
Cell wall function.
Composed of cellulose, and provides support for the cell.
Cytoplasm
- Jelly like fluid.
- Is the site of many cellular reactions.
- Acts as a median for transport inside cell.
Large central vacuole
serve a variety of secretory, excretory, and storage functions.
Nucleus
regulates cell activity. And contains cell’s genetic material.
Chloroplast
Absorbs light energy to make glucose. Contains chlorophyll.
Golgi body function
to modify sort and package proteins from the ER for storage and transport within and out of the cell.
Ribosomes
site of protein synthesis.
Cell membrane
- Thin flexible layer.
- Separates intracellular environment from extracellular environment.
- Regulates what enters and exits cell.
Vacuole
- Serve a variety of secretory, excretory and storage functions.
Lysosome
Contain digestive enzymes to digest old cell organelles and parts of organelles.
Nucleolus
non-membrane bound structure inside nucleus. Function is to transcribe DNA into RNA and assemble it within the cell.
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER)
creates network of membranes (plumbing) throughout the cell. ER can be smooth (no ribosomes) or rough (ribosomes present)
Mitochondria
site where aerobic respiration is completed.
(have two membranes: outer smooth membrane and inner wrinkled membrane; inner folds of inner membrane called cristae.)
