What age Antigen presenting cells (APCs)
These activate T helper cells which stimulate and recruit more phagocytes as T cells to assist in the immune response
What are the two parts of the specific immune response?
Cell mediated response and Humoral reponse
What is the Cell mediated response?
Involves T lymphocytes which target pathogens inside and outside cells
What is the Humoral response?
Involves B lymphocytes which target pathogens by producing antibodies
What are the first steps of Cell meditated Immune repsonse?
APC’s can be either phagocytes or cells that have been invaded by the pathogen
Once Phagocytosis has take place, pathogenic antigens are presented on the cell surface membrane
What are the next steps of Cell mediated immune response?
T cells respond to the cell which is presenting the antigens
T helper cells respond first as they have receptors which fit exactly to the presented antigens
This activates the T cells and they begin to differentiate and recruit other T cells and activate B cells
what does the T helper cell do?
Stimulates lots of cells like cytotoxic T cells, B cells and memory T cells
What do Cytotoxic T cells do?
Kill infected cells through the release of an enzyme that kills the cell
