Q

Explain the structure of epithelial cells, basement membrane and connective tissue in making skin?

A

epithelial cells are joined together with each other but are floppy so require a basement membrane (made of glycoproteins and collagen) to help the epithelial cells keep their shape. The connective tissue then connects muscles to bones, giving a more stable structure.

Q

What are functional cells (parenchyma)?

A
epithelial cells (skin, mucosa, glands)
endothelial cells (blood vessels)

*parenchymal cells of organs (e.g. liver & muscle cells, neurons –> essentail/ functional part of organs

Q

What are the connective tissue framework (stoma)?

A
  • loose (dermis)
  • dense (tendons and ligaments)
  • reticular (organs such as liver, spleen, lymph nodes)
  • collagen fibres (strength) - made by fibroblasts
  • elastin fibres (stretch)
