Cell (Excl. Nucleus) Flashcards
What does the cell membrane consist of?
Phospholipids, cholesterol and proteins.
Describe the layers of the cell membrane.
Its ordered in two layers of phospholipids where the hydrophile and polar ends compose the borders of the membrane. The inside of the two layers are the fatty acids, which are hydrophobic.
Where is the cholesterol situated in the cellmembrane?
Between the gaps of the phospholipids. On the surface of the membrane.
Where is the cholesterol situated in the cellmembrane?
Between the gaps of the phospholipids. Between the fatty-acids.
What is the name of the two types of proteins associated with the cellmembrane? What is the difference between the two?
Integral membrane protein and peripheral membrane protein. IMP is integrated within or reach through the membrane while PMP only is associated with the membrane through ionic forces.
How is glycoproteins respectively glycolipids formed on the cell membrane?
When Carbohydrates connect with either protein or lipids on the membrane.
Why are lipid rafts called signalling platforms?
Because they contain a variety of IMP and PMP thats needed for cell-signaling.
