Cell Energy Generation Flashcards
What is Anabolism?
Consumption of ATP
What is Catabolism?
Production of ATP
What is Metabolism?
Anabolism & Catabolism combined ( consumption and production of ATP)
Generation of ATP in catabolism happens in 2 ways.
- Fermentation (Lactic Acid) 2. Aerobic Respiration
Where and How does Lactic Acid Fermentation happen?
- In the Muscle in absence of Oxygen - Glucose (6C) →→→ Pyruvate (3C) → Lactic Acid (3C) ATP ATP CO2
What is Substrate Phosphorylation?
ADP + P → ATP It is the adding of a Phosphorus molecule to ADP
What are the two ELECTRON ACCEPTORS and what do they become in Glycolysis
NAD+ → NADH Oxidised FAD → FADH2
How many ATP is consumed and Generated in Glycolysis?
2 ATP is consumed, 4 ATP is produced for a net gain of 2 ATP
How many steps in Glycolysis?
10
Name all 10 steps of Glycolysis and the products formed
Stage 1 of Glycolysis
Steps 1-5
Stage 2 of Glycolysis
Steps 5-10
