Cell divison Flashcards
Stages of Mitosis
Interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase.
Interphase
Cell prepares for mitosis, DNA and organelles doubled, ATP content increases (for energy for mitosis).
Prophase
Chromosomes condense. Centrioles (small protein bundles) move to opposite ends of cell, forming spindle fibres. Nuclear envelope breaks down.
Metaphase
Chromosomes (each with 2 chromatids) line up on equator of cell. Become attached to spindle fibres by their centromere
Anaphase
Centromeres divide, separating each pair of sister chromatids, pulling chromatids to opposite sides of ends by the centrioles. Chromatids appear v-shaped
Telophase
2 new nuclei form. Cell plate forms across the midline of parent cell.
Cytokinesis
Cytoplasm moves away from midline. Division of cytoplasm is complete and 2 daughter cells form
