Cell Division - Mitosis Flashcards
What is mitosis
Mitosis makes new cells for growth and repair
What happens when a body cell divides
It needs to make new cells identical to the original cell with the same number of chromosomes
What is each arm of chromosomes
An exact duplicate of the other
What happens if the cell gets a signal to divide
It needs to duplicate the DNA so there is one copy for each new cell
What happens after the cell gets a signal to divide
The chromosome then line up at the centre of the line cell and cell fibres pull them apart the two arms of each chromosomes go to the opposite ends of the cell
What happens after each chromosomes go to opposite ends of the cell
Membranes form around each of the sets of chromosomes.
What are membranes that form around sets of chromosomes become
They become the nuclei of the two new cells
What is the last step of mitosis
The cytoplasm divide
Example of asexual reproduction that uses mitosis
Strawberry plants form runners, the offspring have exactly the same genes as the parent plant so their is no variation
