Cell Division Flashcards
Cell Division
Interphase
G1 Phase
Phase where cell grows and develops
S Phase
DNA Synthesis; Cell Replicates DNA
G2 Phase
The second growth phase of the cell cycle, prepares what’s necessary for cell division
M phase
The phase of the cell cycle that includes mitosis and cytokinesis.
Mitosis
Cell division phase consisting of the Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase, in that order. (PMAT)
Prophase
Chromatin becomes Chromosomes, nuclear envelop dissolves, spindle forms
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
Anaphase
cell elongates and sister chromatids are pulled apart toward the poles
Telophase
chromosomes begin to uncoil, spindles break down, new nuclear membrane forms.
Cytokenesis (animal)
Two new daughter cells are formed, cleavage.
Cytokenesis (plant)
a new cell wall is formed
Cyclins
proteins that regulate the timing of the cell cycle in eukaryotic cells
Internal Regulators
proteins that respond to events inside the cell (can cause cancer)
External Regulator
proteins that respond to events outside the cell
