Cell Cycle And Stages Of Mitosis Flashcards
Interphase
Made up of G1, S and G2
G1 - growth phase, Organelles replicate and makes proteins
(Here some cells can exit and enter G0 where they die, differentiate, or enter senescence (stop dividing)
S- synthesis phase, DNA is replicated (most important genes first
G2- preparing for mitosis, some growth and producing any molecules left to divide
Mitosis (General terms)
Process of chromosomes (DNA) separating to each end of the cell
Cytokinesis
Cell splits in two daughter cells with identical nuclei
In animals, plasma membrane folds inwards, in plants, cellulose forms at the equator forming an end plate (to separate the two cells)
Stages of mitosis order
Prophase metaphase anaphase telophase
Prophase
Centrioles duplicate and move to the poles of the cell
Spiracle fibres grow out from centrioles
Metaphase
Spiracle fibres pull the chromatids into the middle of the cell and they line up at the equator
Check point here
Anaphase
Spiracle fibres (and motor proteins on them) pull the chromatids apart and 1 chromosome to each end of the cell
Telophase
Spiracle fibres disintegrate, chromosomes lengthen and become invisible under the microscope and the nuclear envelope begins to reform at each end
