Cell Cycle Flashcards
Interphase
G1: growth, prep for DNA synthesis
S: DNA replication
G2: prep for mitosis
Cyclin proteins
control movement through phases of cell cycle
Kinase
enzyme transfer phosphate group from ATP onto a protein
Cleavage patterns are determined by…
- Amount of distribution of yolk
- Orientation of mitotic spindle
Blastomeres
Early embryotic cells, secrete ECM molecules b/w each other
Holoblastic
form 2 complete and separate daughter cells
Meridional
Cuts through both the animal and vegetal pole
Sizes of Blastomeres
Micromere: small
Mesomere: med
Macromere: lg
Blastocoel
ECM-filled central cavity in early SU embryo
Extracellular Matrix (ECM)
- Contains proteoglycans (lg protein-sugar molecules) –> resist compression
- Collagen - long fibers, resist stretching, can give orientation to migrating cells
- Fibronectin protein that can organize ECM b/c it has multiple binding sites
Blastula
24 Hours after fertilization
- Cells bind to each other by cell junctions
- As blastula forms cells become ciliated
- Cells release enzymes that digest/weaken fert. envelope
Blastula Cell Orientation
Apical –> side w/ cilia
Basal –> side facing ECM
