Cell Cycle Flashcards
How do sister chromatids compare to eachother?
They are identical to eachother, unless mutation occurs
How do replicated and unreplicated chromosomes different
UnReplicated- single chromatid
Replicated- double chromatid
What are homologous chromosomes?
- 2 copies of each chromosome
- same genes
- one from mother, one from father
What are the two types of nuclear division?
Mitosis
Meiotic
What is the function of mitosis?
Growth, repair, replacement of dead cells, exact copy of cells
What is the function of meiotic?
Production of gametes (sperm and eggs)
Reduction of chromosome numbers in half
What happens during prophase?
- Nuclear envelope breaks down
2. Mitotic spindle forms
What happens during metaphase?
- Chromosomes line up in center
2. Each chromatic is attached to only one pole of the cell
What happens during anaphase
- Cell elongated
2. Sister chromatids separate and move to opposite poles
What happens during telophase?
- Spindle disassembles
- Nuclear envelope forms around each new set of chromosomes
- Followed by cytokinesis
What are the parts of the cell cycle?
- Duplicate DNA
- Prepare for division
- Cell division
- Grow
What are the results of mitosis?
One diploid cell divides to form two identical diploid cells
