cell cycle Flashcards
what is the cell cycle and what are the different stages
-process tat al body cells in a multicellular organism use to grow and divide
interphase;
-G1
-S
-G2
-MITOSIS
-CYTOKINESIS
what is the G1 phase
growth phase where cellular components excluding chromosomes are duplicated - this requires proteins so lots of transcription and translation occurs
what is the G0 phase and when does it happen
-when the cell cycle stops and cell exits the cycle
happens if
-cell is fully differentiated
-damaged DNA (senescent cell)
-in G0 temporarily e.g B memory cells
what is the S phase
-DNA replicate and 46 chromosomes and dubplicated
what is the G 2 phase
-cell checks the duplicated chromosomes for error and makes repairs if needed
transcription/translation
energy stores replaced
what is the G1 checkpoint for
-cell checks for damage in DNA and that chemicals needed for replication/ size of cell is correct
what is the G2 checkpoint for
-cell checks whether DNA has been replicated without damage
what is the m (metaphase) check point for and what could happen if the check point fails
cell checks that chromosomes are assembled correctly on the mitotic spindle
-if it fails, cell my end up with more chromosomes than its diploid number as chromatids may not have separated correctly if not aligned correctly on the spindle
