CELL CYCLE Flashcards
series of events that happen inside the cell as it grows and divides
cell cycle
undergoes growth and duplication of DNA & has 3 subphases stages
interphase
subphases: growing in size and producing organelles
g1 (g stands for gap)
dna of the cell is duplicated
s (synthesis)
continues to grow and prepares for the process of mitosis
g2 (g stands for gap)
nuclear division & involves the division of genetic information to produce two identical nuclei
mitosis/cell division
process that separates the duplicated genetic material
prophase
spindle fibers (microtubules) attach to the chromosomes at the centromere
prometaphase
chromosomes align between the poles in a region known as the metaphase plate
metaphase
chromatids separate at the centromere
anaphase
separates the duplicated genetic material into two identical daughter cells
telophase
splitting of the parental cell cytoplasm into two parts daughter cells (begins during anaphase or early telophase)
cytokinesis
