Cell Atlas Flashcards
What occurs in the nucleus?
Transcription (DNA to RNA)
What phase does nucleus remain in?
Interphase
What part of the cell does most of the activities of the cell belong in?
Cytoplasm- most activity
Organelles are suspended in cytoplasmic matrix called cytosol
What is the support system for cytoplasm?
Microtubules + microfilaments called cytoskeleton
How many membranes for mitochondria? How many for peroxisomes and lysosomes?
Mito- double
Per/Lyso- single membrane
What are chromosomes composed of and supported by?
Composed of chromatin and supported by nuclear matrix
Chromatin can be DENSE or lucent
The cytoplasm cell membrane is composed of what?
Glycoproteins
What are secretory granules?
Inclusion vesicles bound by unit membrane, store secretory proteins prior to discharge by exocytosis
What are cilia covered by?
covered by cell membrane
What is at the center of cilia?
Core= anoxenme, 2 single microtubules
Surrounded by 9 doublet microtubules (each double w/ 2 arms dynenima that connect radial fibers to center)
What are filaments?
Attach to desmosomes and zonulae occulends
What are tubules?
Dense wall + clear center w/ protein subunits and found in cells and FORM SPINDLE IN MITOSIS
